Americans United For Life Action fights the abortion bailout by supporting the Nelson-Hatch-Casey Amendment

“Without the Nelson-Hatch-Casey amendment, America is on the verge of the largest expansion of abortion funding since Roe v. Wade.” — Charmaine Yoest

WASHINGTON (December 7, 2009) — Senators Ben Nelson (D-NE), Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Robert Casey (D-PA) have offered an amendment that would prohibit federal funding for abortion and for insurance plans that cover abortion. This amendment could be offered for a vote as early as today – and unless it passes, the final health bill could lead to the largest expansion of federal funding for abortion in history.

Americans United for Life Action President and CEO Dr. Charmaine Yoest said, “A strong majority of Americans do not want to fund abortion in health care reform. Without the Nelson-Hatch-Casey amendment, America is on the verge of the largest expansion of abortion funding since Roe v. Wade. It is time for the Senate to decide whether to listen to the American people or to move forward with health care legislation that funds abortion on-demand.”

Dr. Yoest continued, “The Reid language in the new Senate health care bill is not the Stupak-Pitts language barring federal funds from going to abortion in health care. It is the opposite of the pro-life Stupak-Pitts language. The U.S. Senate must stop this bill from moving forward by voting no on cloture on this anti-life health care bill.”

Americans United for Life Action President and CEO Dr. Charmaine Yoest and Staff Counsel Mary Harned are available for interviews today and Tuesday about this critical abortion vote in the Senate health care bill.

I am very upset over the fact that our Senators, who are supposed to represent their constituents, have voted in favor of federal funding for abortions. Abortion is not healthcare-it never was, and never will be. Therefore, our tax dollars should not be wasted on providing abortions; especially when 90% of Americans are opposed to using their hard-earned dollars for such a cause. If a woman or young girl wants to have an abortion, which, by the way, is never medically necessary, then let them pay for it themselves. Then see how quickly they change their minds about having an abortion! We’ve made it too easy for them to have an abortion, which is critical even for the mother.

As for the 2,000-page healthcare bill itself, it has a lot of flaws in it, especially with the creation of 111 more bureaucratic agencies . Don’t we have enough of those already! You’re driving up the cost of healthcare, because someone will have to pay for people to work in these offices! And guess who will forced to pay these people-US. From what I’ve read of the healthcare plan, it is not something that was well thought out. By the time a case gets through these 111 bureaucracies, some crucial decisions, such as life-saving ones, will be threatened by your bureaucracies.

I implore all Senators to please go back to the drawing board and truly reform healthcare by making sure the cost is brought down significantly, so that it will be affordable for everyone.

In response to an email from a friend in Texas, I used your Action site to send a letter to my two (really one) senators. Arlen Specter’s contact is a waste of time. He has always been an abortion rights supporter (he and the others call it choice or the “law of the land”) and like a true weasle changed parties for fear of losing the next election to someone who will use a Bush connection to beat him. His arrogance leads him to believe we really need him. Didn’t help Corzine, did it? I received an answer from Sen. Casey and before I read that he is a sponsor of the opposition to tax payers paying for abortion, I wrote bacK to him hoping he would honor his late, esteemed father who bucked the entire Democratic party. I said if all the VOCAL proponents of abortion / homicide had parents who felt as they do, we would not have to listen to their twisted logic because they would not be here to spout it off. I am 74 years old, and my wife and I have 9 children given as gifts from God. I am not wealthy and have many places to use my SS money but I do pray for an end to tihs scourge. Someday the fool who runs planned parenthood (joke) may have her life saved by a doctor whose Mother saw fit to give he or she life instead of death. keep up the good work and God Bless you and MERRY and HOLY CHRISTMAS. Thank you.

I used to think Congress was for the people. Now I am not so sure.

Congress, stop being politicians and be humanbeings whom have been given the privilege and honor to represent the people who voted you into office. Do the right thing for God, country and the people. America is a great country and we the people are blessed to live here. Think, stop and search your heart . Our country depends on you to be moral have good character, trustworthy and hopefully to be in a good place spiritually. Repent and ask your creator to give you the wisdom to make the right decision for what you have been given responsibility to cast a vote that affects all. We the people are praying for you! God Bless America We are a Christian Nation and will not compromise that truth. Do the right thing, we are with you. United we Stand. Devided we Fall. If abortion continues then the greatest president of all time might be inside a young girl and that president may die if abortions continue.
